Tabla, Percussion, Drum set I teach Tabla using the methods and techniques that I was taught by Pandit Divyang Vakil. I emphasize the importance of building good tone and steady rhythm. The weight of the compositions and how they are played is important. I can teach tabla from Dehli, Punjab, and Ajrada Gharana. My approach to teaching drum set varies depending on the student’s interest and level. For teaching Rock, I use Carmen Appice’s book, “Realistic Rock”. I also use “Syncopation”, by Ted Reed, “Elementary Drum Method”, by Roy Burns, and “Stick Control”. For more advanced students I use books for Afro-Cuban and Latin music such as Tito Puente’s, “Drumming with the Mambo King”, Ignacio Berroa's ''Goovin in Clave'' and Ed Uribe’s “Afro Cuban Percussion and Drum Set”, and can incorporate world rhythms from Africa and India. I also teach jazz coordination using Ted Reed’s “Syncopation”. I teach Djembe, conga, cajon, and framedrum. Piano lessons are also available. Classes are available at my studio in Monroe, NJ and I also give lessons in your home. You can see photos of my studio in the gallery. Please contact me for class times and fee’s.
